My review of Book 1 is really a review of both Books 1 and 2. Regardless, let’s do this! Book 2 ends with the closing of a chapter in Claire’s life, and honestly, the series could end here. I’d be sad, but okay with it. Still, I really hope for a Book 3. Why? Because this story strikes a rare balance between relationship building, battle sequences, and system mechanics. I have a hidden folder of books that invest too heavily in one area while ignoring the others, and I call it my archive folder. Books that manage to do all three in a realistic and accessible way are absolutely re-readable (or re-listenable) material. Between my copies on Amazon and SBT, I’ve re-listened to these two books several times. When Claire absolutely murders #73... over... and over... and over again... but then pauses for a conversation with the rando in the room, that’s how a story builds into an immersive experience. Honestly, most of the bunker break-in scene could have been skipped, but the conversations and inner monologue made the chapter so much richer. El's dad tapping on the bookshelf as he spoke, and then his companions growing suspicious! Gold, simply gold. Let’s also not forget the arguments about Personal Loot, for the individual versus the greater good. Rather than just describing the mechanics as internal narration, the story turns those mechanics into an actual argument between characters. What could’ve read like a dry gaming manual instead becomes a compelling piece of relationship-driven storytelling. Anyway, Book 2 is awesome, and I’m crossing my fingers for Book 3.

A great continuation of the series, well written, and although Andie was not avaliable to continue narrating the series, Tess has done a great job filling the role.
